More police presence for Mannings Hill Road

The St Andrew North police will be increasing their presence around sections of Mannings Hill Road, in St Andrew, following Tuesday's clash between supporters of rival deejays Mavado and Vybz Kartel.

The incident left two men nursing stab wounds, one of whom had to be rushed to hospital, where he was admitted in serious condition.

According to investigators, the melee began about 4 p.m. when residents of an area known as 'Big Yard' demanded that a man who was seen painting a mural of Mavado desist from doing so.

Residents of 'Hungry Town', another nearby community converged on the scene and a confrontation developed.

Stones and knives were then drawn, during which the two men, including the man who was painting the mural, were stabbed and others received minor injuries.

Big Yard is known to be home for some supporters of Vybz Kartel and the deejay even refers to the community in some of his songs. Cassava Piece, where Mavado is from, is located nearby.

Residents of both communities as well as the police believe the incident to be a spillover from the lyrical clash between the two deejays at the recently held Sting concert.
