Bridgeport High takes home championship trophy

Anthony Minott photos - Peter Reid (right), president of St Catherine Football Association, hands over the championship trophy to Damarley Oliver, captain of Bridgeport High School, as other members of the team look on.

Bridgeport High School railed from two goals down to win the inaugural Braeton United Sports Club invitational trophy, defeating rivals Waterford High at Ferdie Neita Park on Boxing Day.

Ricardo Smith and Rashad Bent gave Waterford an early 2-0 cushion lead but Jeremy Lynch, who was injured late in the season, completed a double strike, forcing the game into penalties. Lynch scored the winning penalty in the shoot-out.

Braeton United took the opportunity to honour founder Ajah Cooper, who started the club in 1983. At that time, the field was called the Braeton United Sports Club playfield, now renamed Ferdie Neita Park and is home to Premier League champions Portmore United.

Cooper, who is blind, was dapperly dressed and accepted his award from Peter Reid, president of the St Catherine Football Association.
