A former quality control manager for a security firm was on Wednesday sent to prison for 30 days for trying to export ganja to Barbados.
Croswell Henry of a Waltham Park address pleaded guilty to possession of ganja, dealing in ganja and taking steps to export ganja when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magis-trate's Court on Wednesday.
Strapped to his person
It is alleged that the accused checked in to board a flight to Barbados at the Norman Manley International Airport when he was stopped and searched and 1.3 kgs (3lb) of ganja was found strapped to his person.
Henry told Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown that he decided to carry the drugs because he did not get paid after working several weeks with a security company.
For possession of ganja he was fined $4,000 or six months and he was admonished and discharged for dealing in ganja. He was also fined $20,000 or six months for taking steps to export ganja and sentenced to 30 days' imprisonment at hard labour. RM Brown told the accused that if he did not pay the fines he would serve seven months in prison.
