Dear Pastor,
I am a 27-year-old father and a husband to a wonderful woman for five years now. My son is now seven. I wrote to you once and you helped a lot with the advice you gave. I now need your help in relation to my family life and future security. My wife is a teacher and I am a member of the security forces. We make a good living together but are easily swayed in decision making when it comes to money spending. We are planning to buy a car but we don't own a home as yet. The car is very important because it gives us more flexibility.
Decision
I want to get some advice on how to balance my decision-making and if it is a mistake in buying a car at this time. Thank you, in advance.
A. S., St. Catherine, Jamaica
Dear A. S.,
If the car is necessary, by all means, purchase it. But, remember that you would have to maintain the car by servicing it regularly, tyres, licence and insurance. These things take money. But, for some people, a car is a necessity and one can do more and earn more by having his/her own transportation. So, every case must be judged on its own merit.
Extravagant
If your wife and yourself are not extravagant in spending, you can have a car and still save towards purchasing a house.
