A woman from Anguilla who tried to smuggle two kilograms (5lb) of ganja out of the island was remanded until March 2, when the case will again be mentioned in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.
Melissa Brooks-Reid pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody until her next court date on Wednesday. Brooks-Reid is charged alongside Nigel Anderson of an Ensom City address, who was granted $100,000 bail with surety.
Drug found
Allegations are that the woman was at the Norman Manley International Airport about to board a plane destined for St Maarten, when her bags were searched and the drug found. She reportedly told the authorities that Anderson gave it to her. He was subsequently arrested.
No reasonable grounds
Anderson's lawyer, however, argued that his client was not associated with the drug in any way and there were no reasonable grounds to prove that he gave the woman the drug, as she claimed.
The court was told that Anderson, who is a construction worker, was on contract work in Anguilla when he met Brooks-Reid. She reportedly visited Jamaica after Anderson returned home.
The case returns to court on March 2.
