Interest prime for Gibson Relays

The interest ahead of next month's Gibson Relays has been described by organising committee member Errol Greene as "phenomenal", with teams from as far away as Korea hoping to participate in the showcase event.

"The interest from overseas teams has been phenomenal," Greene told Star Sports.

"We have teams from a number of Caribbean countries, from Canada, we expect teams from as far as Korea, Puerto Rico and the Cayman Islands, they come from all over," he added.

Big guns

Asked if local teams MVP and Racers Track Club will be among the 'big guns' on show, Greene said:

"We expect those (clubs) and, as I said before, some of our local superstars will be there.

"Gibson is the only meet in the world where you can come and see people like Asafa Powell and Usain Bolt run for the price of that ticket," he added, while making reference to the widely considered affordable $700 for grandstand and $100 bleachers National Stadium entrance fees.

The Milo Junior Grand Prix, which will conclude at the Gibson Relays, is a new addition.

The Grand Prix Series, which involves two events , a 4x800 and 4x100m Open for classes one and two athletes, will offer $500,000 in prize money.
