AS PART of our mission to be the People Paper, THE WEEKEND STAR has been highlighting problem areas across the island. Our reporter Carolyn Johnson, along with photographer Norman Grindley, will focus on a particular area until the problem is fixed. We will then have a rough idea of how long the relevant authorities take to deal with some of the problems affecting our country.
The recession
We are happy that the New Year has started well, or so it seems. Despite the recession, we are elated that the government has managed to squeeze through some funds for road repair. Throughout the Corporate Area, small - and sometimes huge - patches of newly laid asphalt are evidence of the road repairs, if even for the short term.
Still, there are roads that the Government has missed. Three of those overlooked lie amid the hustle and bustle of New Kingston - Haughton Terrace, Haughton Avenue and Garelli Avenue. All three are found off Trafalgar Road just before reaching the 'Hip Strip'.
Sinkholes
The roads, which are home to many business offices, are filled with sinkholes and large pools. There are few sections of the road still level and it seems rocks and stones are more common than asphalt.
We really hope the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) will address these avenues quickly. It 'nuh look propa' for roads in the heart of the city at all.
