A St Catherine man accused of stabbing a man to death was granted bail in the sum of $150,000 in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Trevor Shortridge of Foredice Avenue, in the old capital, was charged for the death of Devon Bell, also of the same street.
a fight
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Leroy Guy of the Spanish Town Police Station told the court that about 9 p.m. on January 19, Shortridge and Bell had an altercation which turned into a fight.
He said that they were parted and Shortridge left. The court heard that Shortridge returned and stabbed Bell. He later died.
unpaid bill
The lawman said the argument developed after the accused went to a bar and asked for credit. He was told that he already had an unpaid bill. He became angry and that was when Bell
intervened.
However, a lawyer representing the accused told the court his client was attacked by Bell, who cut him on the back and that is why his client should be granted bail. The crown then gave Shortridge bail on condition that he returned to court on May 4, 2009.
