Nyah sinks Colterer's skittles dreams

Veteran player, Rudolph 'Nyah' Mullings, played a scintillating round of skittles to end the hopes of former singles champion Keith 'Colterer' Barrett at last Sunday's quarter-finals of the Jamaica Skittles Federation Sista singles championship at the Mystix Sports Bar, Hagley Park Road, St Andrew.

Mullings, who has been displaying fine form in this year's tournament, out-cued his more fancied opponent 3-2 in the best of five playoff.

Mullings was always the better player on the night and used his form to good advantage, as he led Barrett 2-0, but handed his rival a lifeline when he played an awful sinkers shot, toppled the major and allowed Barrett to breathe again.

The mistake would prove costly as Barrett clawed his way back to 2-2 and almost pulled off a remarkable come-from-behind win but missed an easy 400 shot, allowing Mullings back into contention halfway through the final game.

Mullings needed no more signal that Barrett was playing like a cornered animal and occupied the table for the rest of the game to shut out his rival.

Mullings joins former champion Fitzroy Blair, who eked out a narrow win over a nervous-looking Everton Thomas, Everett Melbourne and Alphonso Stewart in Sunday's semi-finals at the JPS Sports club.

Portmore players from Meadow-vale and The Dip failed to advance in the singles but Meadowvale have qualified for the semi-finals of the Pattex Cup team competition along with Eastern All-Stars, Eagles (formerly Cherry's Strikers) and Rowe's Strikers. Meadowvale, who have been drawn to meet Eagles, are defending champions.
