Barbados, (CMC)
Barbadian Ryan Hinds continued to nag West Indies selectors, reeling off another century to put Barbados in command against Guyana on the rain-hit opening day of the fifth round WICB Regional four-day match yesterday.
The left-handed Hinds, who has already scored a double century this season, slammed a typically stroke-filled 134 to guide Barbados to 298 for four at the close, after they were sent in to bat at the Windward Cricket Club.
Hinds, recently overlooked for the opening Test against England, strolled to the wicket with Barbados floundering at nought for one wicket and proceeded to dominate Guyana's hapless bowling attack.
Overall, he smashed 21 fours and a six, in an innings that lasted 206 minutes and required a mere 141 balls.
Captain Jason Haynes, woefully out of form, further compounded that gloom as he finished the day 89 not out while the aggressive Dwayne Smith chipped in with an unbeaten 55.
Guyana would have had big ideas of turning their horrible season around when fast bowler Brandon Bess had rookie opener Rashidi Boucher caught at the wicket without scoring, before Barbados had put a run on the board.
This was to be the end of their success, however, as Hinds joined Haynes to put the Guyana attack to the sword.
Guyana hauled themselves back into the game admirably when off-spinner Royston Crandon bowled Hinds after the interval, triggering a slide that saw three wickets tumble for 12 runs with Jonathan Carter (4) and Rohan Nurse (2), both falling cheaply.
But Smith joined Hinds to add another 90 runs for the fifth wicket and once again dash Guyana's hopes of taking the upper hand in the match.
