August Town face Cavalier in crucial clash

Leaders August Town will face third-place Cavalier in an important KSAFA/Claro Super League clash at the Constant Spring Complex at 3:30 p.m. today.

On 18 points, August Town are just ahead of the Jamaica Defense Force (JDF), who are second on 17, just ahead of Cavalier on goal difference.

In such a close scenario anything but a win could see the leaders potentially slip to third, but August Town's Calvert Fitzgerald is optimistic that his team will continue to stay atop the tables despite losing two of their better players to red cards last week.

"In order for us to maintain the lead in the competition we have to beat Cavalier. We trained hard all week and are expecting positive results," Fitzgerald said.

cautious

The coach is, however, cautious that second place JDF, on 17 points, who play hosts to Constant Spring, could also creep into the lead.

"With the JDF being in second place it is even more important that we win and stay ahead of them," he said.

Meanwhile, manager of Cavalier, Barrington Deer, will be content to take an open approach to the game. "Any given day my team decides to play some good football, the result is always good ... and that is what we are aiming for. We are taking things one game at a time," he said. Despite being confident, however, Deer insists Cavalier will not underestimate their opponents.

game in our favour

"August Town are the forerunners and we have never met them before in Super League. We have some quality players that can turn the game in our favour, so let us see what happens," he said.

In other Super League matches, Bull Bay will journey to Duhaney Park while second-from-the-bottom-of-the-table Mountain View United will travel to face Maverley/Hughenden.

Liguanea United, who sit squarely at the bottom of the table on zero, will play Real Mona at Buttercup Park, and Police National will play Santos.

In Major League action, Rockfort will host Port Royal and Meadforest will journey to Molynes United. Rae Town will play Barbican and Seaview Gardens will host Cooreville Gardens at the Seaview Gardens field.

Olympic Gardens will oppose Brown's Town at Cling Cling Park and Central Kingston will entertain Swallowfield at Winchester Park. All games are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
