Save Lucea

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The picture as it is in my hometown of Lucea is bleak, and the situation dull, with the global meltdown leading to the shutdown of the jockey factory. Jockey is responsible for a vast number of the employment here. The factory's demise has left 500 people now unemployed.

Autocratic system

Everyone will be affected by this move by Jockey International, a multinational corporation, which gives unskilled persons an opportunity to make good of themselves. The factory has been in Lucea for more than two decades, so this is going to have far-reaching effects on the communities in this area.

With Lucea's crime rate increasing, residents are in for a rough time. Measures have to be put in place now to root out the dangers of crime and violence. Politicians and persons of influence must develop the area and avert a catastrophe.

Despair

The Jockey factory is located at Haughton Industrial Estate in Haughton Court, just in front of Rusea's High School. I can just imagine the levels of despair which loom over the people. Some will have to go into farming or the tourist trade, which is limping due to the global downturn.

I am, etc.,

Paris Taylor (Mr)
