Clean break

Michael McLean, Star Writer

santa cruz

A woman caught stealing groceries at a popular supermarket in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth, was spared going to jail but was forced to clean the floor inside the store as her punishment last week.

The woman, who is from the community, gladly accepted her duties inside the supermarket located along Main Street in the town.

It is alleged that sometime in the early afternoon, the woman went inside the supermarket. She had a large handbag and took up a grocery basket before proceeding to the shelves. She is said to have placed a number of items in the handbag and basket before going to the cashier.

After she paid for the items in the basket, she attempted to leave the store but was stopped by the security officer. The items found in her bag were valued about $1,000.

The managers of the supermarket decide that instead of taking her to the police station, they would give her their own form of punishment.
