AS PART of our mission to be the People Paper, THE WEEKEND STAR has been highlighting problem areas across the island. Our Reporter Carolyn Johnson, along with photographer Norman Grindley, will focus on a particular area until the problem is fixed. We will then have a rough idea of how long the relevant authorities take to deal with some of the problems affecting our country.
Well, this week was a wet one for St Thomas, Portland, St Mary and St Ann. While residents of these parishes are still drying their valuables, the parish councils and the National Works Agency (NWA) are being kept busy. They will continue to be preoccupied for a few more weeks as they start the process of rebuilding infrastructure.
Lower on the map, off Trafalgar Road, New Kingston, there are three avenues with craters big enough to hold some of the St Mary rain. Haughton Terrace, Haughton Avenue and Garelli Avenue continue to be an eyesore amid the businesses and activity taking place on these popular side streets.
Still, it seems the rough, rubble and stony track currently being used as a road will have to stay in use a little longer. When THE WEEKEND STAR contacted the town clerk yesterday, he said he was unaware of the state of these roads. He said, however, that he needed to check with the city engineer.
We do hope that somewhere at the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation, there is a report about these battered roads.
