The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) is urging customers to be on the lookout for persons who have been pretending to be employees of the company.

The warning comes after the May Pen police launched an investigation into a report made Monday, where two men claiming to be JPS employees gained entry into a customer's home, which they robbed.

Allegations are that two men went to the house in the May Pen area and told the occupants that they were from JPS and needed to check on the meter. After removing the meter from its socket, the men asked to go into the house and this request was granted.

When they went inside, the men robbed the occupants. "In light of this recent incident, JPS is renewing its warning for customers to be on the alert for unscrupulous persons pretending to be JPS employees," the JPS said in a release.

The company also said that all its employees are properly identified and customers can ask to see their IDs, which the employees should present.

The release also said the JPS also urges customers to contact the nearest JPS office or its 24-hour customer care centre to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be an employee, who is not properly identified and demanding access to their premises or seeking to collect money on the power company's behalf.
