The trial of the man who was allegedly rescued by Minister without Portfolio James Robertson had to be put off yesterday because Supreme Judge Bryan Sykes who was scheduled to try the case is ill.
Another trial date has been set for March 18 in the Gun Court.
Attorney-at-law Charles Ganga Singh, representing Rameish Simpson of White Horses, St Thomas, had applied on Monday for an early trial date and the trial was set for yesterday.
Simpson has been in custody since he was arrested and charged in January. Two bail applications for him have been denied.
Simpson is facing charges of shooting with intent and illegal possession of firearm. It is being alleged that Simpson fired at the police on January 3 this year.
Shot and injured
There are reports that Simpson was also shot and injured during the incident and Robertson took him from St Thomas to the Kingston Public Hospital.
Robertson was subsequently served with summonses for obstructing the police and using abusive and calumnious language.
