School of love

Dear Pastor,

I want to congratulate you on the good job that you are doing. I read your columns online everyday.

I am a 21-year-old woman born in Jamaica but living in England for the last 10 years. I am in a stable position, living with a family which provides for me. I am also studying at a university.

Crazy for boy

Four-and-a-half-years ago, I went back to Jamaica for the first time and met a loving guy. The problem is that I am deeply in love with him and it is driving me insane. Every moment of each day I think about him, it's crazy. Never in a million years did I think I could love someone as much, especially because people are always saying I am a tough nut to crack. Sometimes I find it hard to concentrate on my schoolwork.

He says he loves me and I have never doubted that. When I am there in Jamaica, we live lovingly, like a proper married couple. It's always us against the world. Sometimes, I just feel like returning home where my heart is. When I am there, I am so happy it seems as if there is nothing in the world that could break me. The best part is that we are both in love with each other. He calls me every day to make sure I am all right. He motivates me and when I don't go to school he fusses with me.

I love him dearly. Please give me your fatherly advice on how to maintain loving him and focus on my education at the same time.

Thank you. God is love and love is God.

Dear God is Love,

I love the Bible, I really do. I have used the Word of God as my guide from the time I was a child. The Bible says there is time for everything under the sun. There is a time to laugh, there is a time to mourn, there is a time to dance, there is a time to embrace, there is a time to refrain from embracing etc. You have to realise this is the time for you to study and focus so on so you will never fail a course.

Don't be stupid

You got yourself a man. You claim that he is a good man. He loves you and you love him. He is not running away. In fact, he is always encouraging you to study. Don't do anything stupid. Talk to yourself and try to keep your emotions under control. Put your studies first. I have said before in my columns that a woman can lose on a man but she cannot lose in getting a good education. You don't want to get this man totally out of your mind. What you should do is to use common sense. It won't be too long before both of you are together for a long time but, for now, it is time to study.
