Easy Selection

JIMMIE, STAR Racing Writer

REGAL SELECTION should be a five-star banker on every bet staked tomorrow afternoon when the in-form four-year-old gelding takes on a field of open allowance pretenders for the 1800-metre Zaleucus Trophy.

Unbeaten in his last two races, REGAL SELECTION put away MR SKILL at 1500 metres three weeks ago following his impressive win in the New Year's Day CTL Fan Appreciation Trophy at 2200 metres.

None of REGAL SELECTION's five rivals, IL CAIMANO included, have ever won an open allowance race. At least two of the entries, SLEDGE and BORN FIGHTER - a $220,000 claimer, who should really be competing among $180,000 company - should not have even been allowed in the race.

REGAL SELECTION is expected to be a money-back winner, representing a freebie for Track Price Plus Pick-6 bettors.

Champion jockey Omar Walker should answer Dane Nelson's five-timer with a double for Wayne DaCosta's - NATURALLY ROYAL in the third at 1100 metres and THREE QUEENS in the sixth at 1000 metres straight.

DaCosta's NATURALLY ROYAL should go gate-to-wire in the third at 1100 metres in which he should be chased home by stablemate UNBREAKABLE HEART.

He extended his stablemate THE GUARDIAN at 1000 metres straight on February 7 and returned two Wednesdays ago to lead three-year-old classic hopeful BRUCEONTHELOOSE for a half-mile, eventually finishing third, overhauled by HAIL THE GENIUS close home.

Anthony Nunes' MACHISMO is down in class for the overnight allowance event but looked out of sort at exercise Sunday morning when beaten by three-year-old stablemate TWIST OF FATE.

Romp to victory

DaCosta's THREE QUEENS should romp the 1000-metre straight sixth event for $180,000 claimers. Her last workout, 1:09.0 for 1100 metres, should make her an easy winner against DIGI N' JIGGY and MUSTANG.

Nelson, who moved his tally to 17 wins with his five-timer on Wednesday, five off Walker, should boot home TWIST OF FATE in the ninth at 1500 metres. The three-year-old gelding returns treated with lasix and has been setting the exercise track alight since being caught by IT IS WRITTEN at 1000 metres straight on debut.

Close all bets with a pair of impressive winners hunting quick doubles, STEEL DE CAT in the fourth at 1200 metres and BELLA in the fifth at 1100 metres.

STEEL DE CAT cantered home at 1000 metres straight on last, clocking 58.2, which makes him also better than non-winners-of-two.

BELLA's lightning-fast win at 1100 metres on last when treated with lasix was too impressive not to give her every chance of repeating up in class.
