Up close with Laden

Laden - Collin Hamilton

The STAR got in-depth with Laden to find out what's on his mind ...

STAR: How hard or easy is it for an artiste from outside of Kingston to break into the music business?

Laden: "It is very hard. a lot of times you have to spend money to turn up at the studio, think you gonna be recording and, by the end of the night, nothing happens. You have to have time for music."

STAR: Do you think persons who enter talent competitions have it easier to break into the business?

Laden: "No, you just have to have the talent. once you have the talent and love what you do, it will work."

STAR: What is the most important lesson you have learnt from Digicel Rising Stars?

Laden: "How to perform live."

STAR: If you were prime minister for the day, what would you change?

Laden: "Corruption, especially by the politicians, I would want to make sure there is proper justice for all."

STAR: As a new artiste, how does the current economic recession affect you?

Laden: "It does. it affects us because promoters keep fewer shows and if they do fewer shows, we get less funds."

STAR: Is there anything in the business you'd like to change?

Laden: "The politics, where you have to pay your way through. once a yute have talent you must give him a break instead of charging him."

STAR: What can be done to prevent the recent attacks on children?

Laden: "First, we need to put away the convicted rapers for a very long time. Second, I think the parents suppose to take notice of their children even more, guide them in school, drop them off on time, pick them up on time and don't let them stray."

STAR: Do you think artistes are doing enough charitable work?

Laden: "Yeah, of course, artistes like Mavado who buy computers for the schools and Shaggy who helped out the hospital."

STAR: Are you interested in any charitable causes?

Laden: "Anything to do with the schools, to uplift the children and educate, that's why we're on things like the Coca Cola School Tour."
