Man remanded for breaching curfew

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

A St Catherine man, whom the police claimed was not at home during his curfew hours, was remanded for breaching a curfew order when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

He is Omara Nicholson, 27 years old, labourer, of Dela Vega City in Spanish Town, St Catherine. Nicholson, who was out on bail for murder, was ordered to be home by 8 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the following day. However, on Friday 13 about 2 a.m., the police told the court that they went to check on Nicholson and he was not at home.

When he turned up to report in compliance with his bail requirements, he was subsequently taken into custody.

When he appeared before senior resident magistrate for St Catherine, Lorna Errar, she remanded him until April 21.

A curfew is a condition of one's bail offered by a judge,as to how one should behave during the period of time that he/she is out on bail.
