A man accused of having a relationship with his 15-year-old stepdaughter and impregnating her, was granted bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

The court was told that when it was discovered that the teen was pregnant, she told family members that she had been raped in the bathroom at her school by four men. However, investigators who were called in, realised that based on when she claimed she was raped, her pregnancy would not be so far along.

Investigations then pointed to her stepfather. A DNA test was conducted at the family Court which proved that the child was 99.99 per cent his. He was subsequently charged with carnal abuse.

The accused, however, told the court that he was innocent. He said, "I know I'm not guilty. I did not do it." The complainant has since been put in the state's custody.

The accused was granted $50,000 bail with surety. A preliminary enquiry into the matter was set for May 5.
