Hit-and-run driver gets bail

A young man was on Friday brought before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court to answer to charges of dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident.

It was mentioned that the accused man, Sean Gallimore, lost control of his vehicle on Hagley Park Road and ran over the now-deceased. The accused then drove off after the accident, leaving the woman to succumb to her injuries.

The police were alerted and the vehicle was found in a yard where Gallimore was identified as the owner.

Although Gallimore was identified as the accused, there are no witnesses to confirm this claim.

The accused in a statement, told the court that he was instructed by his passengers to continue his journey and this was when he drove off. He went home and said he talked to family members about the incident and was told by them to repair the car.

Police report also shows that the vehicle was being repaired when it was found. Gallimore was given $50,000 bail with surety and is due to return to court on April 16.
