St George's will look to make up for the disappointment of having lost out on the Southern Conference crown earlier this season when they tackle Herbert Morrison in the Under-19 final of the ISSA/KFC all-island schoolboy basketball champions at the National Stadium courts at 5 p.m. today.
In the Under-16 final which will be 3 p.m. curtain-raiser, defending champions Ardenne will tackle Jamaica College in an all, Southern Conference affair. The Under-19 finalists had contrasting wins in Tuesday's semi-finals. While Herbert Morrison slipped by Wolmer's, 71-69, at the Montego Bay Cricket Club, St George's devastated Cornwall, 104-51, at the National Stadium.
Odane Cranston led the North Street team with 22 points and 17 rebounds and Stefano Leslie had 21 points and 11 rebounds in a game which was decided after the first period with St George's leading 31-7 at the end of the first quarter, before going on to lead 56-19 by half-time.
National championship
Adolex Grant top scored for Cornwall with 19 points.
"The guys really want this title. It has been a while since we have won the national championship at the Under-19 level," said St George's coach Clifford Brown.
"We are looking to break that trend and I think the guys came out and executed well and we are looking forward to the final," Brown added.
However, having already seen off two Southern Conference opponents this season, Herbert Morrison, who finished third in the Western Conference, will not be short on
confidence.
"We have confidence. Remember, we beat Ardenne and they are the Southern Conference champions, so the guys are really pumped up for this final, said Herbert Morrison's coach Dave Black.
"We will be a bit affected I think, not being on our home floor, but it is the final, we will put that behind us and come out with all guns blazing," he added.
In the Under-16 semi-final played last week, Ardenne got the better of Kingston College, 56-48, to book their place in the final, and Jamaica College defeated the St George's juniors, 67-57.
In Tuesday's encounter, Jamoy Richardson and Jervis Hamilton both had 18 points for the St James team.
