AS PART of our mission to be the People Paper, THE WEEKEND STAR has been highlighting problem areas across the island. Our reporter Carolyn Johnson, along with photographer Norman Grindley, will focus on a particular area until the problem is fixed. We will then have a rough idea of how long the relevant authorities take to deal with some of the problems affecting our country.
So, last week, we braved the traffic and went down to Half-Way Tree, only to meet up on a different type of traffic 'refugees' moving across Parish Place. There is nothing more annoying to a motorist that having a green light yet you are unable to move.
Pedestrian crossing on green
This is what it seems is happening in Half-Way Tree, as motorists get green to turn left on to Parish Place from Constant Spring Road. As soon as they make the corner, they meet upon a pedestrian crossing with all of Kingston.
We checked with the National Works Agency (NWA) to get some rational for this mistake, well, as far as we are concerned. A representative from the agency told us that the initial plan in drawing the pedestrian crossing was to have motorists yield to pedestrians who tried to go across Parish Place.
While the plan worked, to some extent, they have received numerous complaints from motorists.
The representative said they are in discussions to correct the problem.
Hint: Rub it out!
