Man shot and killed by gunmen
Don Blackwood, 23, was shot dead by gunmen at his home at Sunrise Crescent, Kingston 20, yesterday.
Police reports are that at about 4:12 a.m. Blackwood was at his home when he was called outside by men, who shot him several times.
The police were summoned and he was taken to hospital where he died while being treated.
The St Andrew South CIB is investigating.
Men challenge police, one fatally shot
One of several men who opened fire at members of the security forces at Parottee district, St Elizabeth, yesterday, was fatally shot and a firearm taken from him. Another, believed to be a Haitian national, was held and taken into custody in relation to the incident.
The dead man has been identified as Lenroy Evans, 30, fisherman of Parottee district. The name of the other man is being withheld pending further investigations.
Police reports are that about 1:30 a.m. the team carried out an operation in the community. During the exercise, a group of men was seen removing plastic buckets from a boat on the seashore. When accosted, the men pulled guns and fired at the lawmen. The fire was returned and one of the men held.
The area was searched and Evans was found suffering from gunshot wounds. The others escaped.
A 9mm Beretta pistol, serial number 934648765490, with a magazine containing six 9mm cartridges was taken from Evans. He was taken to the Black River Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The plastic buckets were searched and 72 rounds of ammunition were found in one. The boat and ammunition were seized.
The Black River police are investigating.
body found on school compound
The body of a man was found on the playing field of a school at Maverley Avenue, Maverly, Kingston 20, on Thursday. The body has been identified as that of 22-year-old Bernard Dacres, otherwise called 'Mintball', of Maverley.
Police reports are that about 6:30 a.m. residents discovered the body on the playing filed and alerted the police. An inspection of the body by the lawmen revealed several gunshot wounds. The crime scene was processed and the body removed to the morgue for post-mortem.
The Duhaney Park police are investigating.
