Following reports of political tension ahead of Monday's by-election in West Portland, a house reportedly belonging to a political activist was firebombed on Thursday.
According to police reports, some time after 8 p.m. residents heard explosions and afterwards smoke and fire were seen at a section of the house.

The police and fire brigade were subsequently alerted but the home was completely destroyed by the fire.
Investigators say the four-bedroom house was home to at least nine persons. It was also said that the fire is suspected to have been ignited by the use of home-made bombs.
Earlier this week, Political Ombudsman Herro Blair had urged the police to maintain a strong presence in the constituency as there were reports of growing tension involving supporters of the two major political parties, the ruling Jamaica Labour Party and the opposing People's National Party.
