The $50,000 stove was delivered to the school by councillor for the area, Michael Edwards recently.
At the handover ceremony, Councillor Edwards said that the chairman of the school board, Claude Hamilton, approached him about a breakfast programme they wanted to start at the school. Edwards opined that once there was a stove "then some cooking will start."
"This is my personal contribution to the school between the school chairman and myself," Edwards said.
Hamilton said that with this contribution students who leave their homes without eating breakfast can get hot meals, and this will help with the performance of students, as teachers will not get the best out of a child if he/she is hungry.
Jean Fearon, principal of the school, was overjoyed with the contribution and vowed to put the stove to good use.
The school now has the smaller task of getting utensils and foodstuff to get the programme up and running.
