KC's Stewart eyes record runs

Kingston College's Keiron Stewart

NAME: Keiron Stewart

D.O.B: 21.11.89

CLASS: One

SCHOOL: Kingston College (KC)

EVENTS: 110m and 400m hurdles

PR: 13.49 (110mH), 50.20 (400mH)

MAIN RIVALS AND WHY: Stewart pointed to Warren Weir as a major threat in the 110m hurdles, believing him to be the only other athlete in the field capable of competing at a level similar to his own, at this point in time. In the 400m hurdles, Stewart identified Wayne Extol of Wolmer's and Andre Walsh of St Jago as the major rivals, despite his teammate Andre Peart having the second best time this season. According to Stewart, there is no need to do so, as his team is looking to sweep the event.

LAST YEAR'S PERFORMANCE: Stewart finished second in a very close race with Akeem Smith, both recording 13.83. He had earlier won the 400m hurdles in 50.29.

EXPECTATION THIS YEAR: He aims to win both events in record times.

NOTE: If anyone were to break records in the 110m and 400m hurdles it would have to be Stewart, who has without question proven his ability. Stewart's national record of 13.49 over the sprint obstacle is better than the Champs record of 13.53, which he set in 2007. In the 400m hurdles, Josef Robertson's mark of 50.24 could also be lowered this year. Stewart, who is arguably one of the best schoolboy hurdlers ever, backed by his bronze at last year's World Junior Championships, seems destined to have the Champs of his life.
