Beer Company Red Stripe has apologised to deejay Assassin via a release yesterday for ending his set prematurely at the Red Stripe Live concert.

In a release sent to THE STAR by the company's media contact, Kim Lee, Red Stripe expressed regret for what transpired on Saturday, March 28 at the concert.

The short release said: "Red Stripe apologises to Mr Jeffery Campbell, aka Assassin, for the premature end to his performance on Red Stripe Live last Saturday, March 28. Red Stripe is grateful that Mr Campbell supported its first live event to raise funds for its Learning for Life initiative and sincerely regrets that his performance was cut short."

On Monday, Assassin sent a release stating that he was not at fault at the Saturday-night concert. He said he was prematurely taken offstage after using the word 'fish' in his song Pre Dis.

Jerome Hamilton, head of Headline Entertainment that does booking for Assassin, said he is happy that Red Stripe has apologised to Assassin.

However, "I really welcome Mr Mark McKenzie (Red Stripe chief executive officer) to make it clear what they will and will not accept at certain events (which Red Stripe sponsors). I understand how they feel about violence against certain groups, but I want to know what is the general principle artistes are taking on certain issues onstage," Hamilton told THE STAR while noting that this explanation would prevent another incident of this nature.

Nonetheless, he is glad to see Red Stripe taking an initiative to re-enter the live music scene as Red Stripe has and will continue to use Jamaican lifestyle and culture to promote the brand locally and abroad.
