Dear Pastor,
I recently graduated from a prestigious institution. Late last year, I sent in an application to a university in Kingston. My first choice was to do marketing, and I received an email from the admissions department saying they have received my application and that I will receive an answer concerning whether I have been accepted or not in a few weeks. The problem is, they are instead considering me for a position in hospitality and tourism management. A few years ago, I wanted to be a hotel manager but decided otherwise because I've come to realise that it suits my personality to be in marketing.
As a result, I have become greatly discouraged from going to school this year because I've searched with no success for a school that is still taking applications for this year. That means that I have to spend an extra year out of school. My dreams involve being among those that are respected as the leaders of tomorrow and one who is of high financial status. This, however, is nearly impossible to accomplish without formal education from a tertiary institution.
I have big dreams but I honestly don't want to do tourism. What do I do?
Discouraged, St Catherine
Dear Discouraged,
You did not mention your age but I am sure you are in your late teens. Do not allow anyone to discourage you from doing what you want to do. You have set high goals for yourself and you should work towards them. Pray about your problems. Follow the advice of the admissions deptartment at the university to which you applied. Make sure you apply early. And make sure you apply early, too, if you need a student loan.
