Two schoolboys, one from Vauxhall High School and the other Jamaica College, were taken before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday to answer to the charge of having an offensive weapon.
The boys, who are both under 16 years old, were arrested at the GraceKennedy/ISSA Boys and Girls Athletic Championships.
The Vauxhall student told Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown that he brought the weapon for protection from criminals. The other also told the court that his knife was for also protection because he was attacked last year by a group of boys.
Senior RM Glen Brown chastised the boys' mothers, telling them that they should have greater control over their children's actions. One mother, however, defended herself saying she told him that knives were not allowed at the meet, but she did not know that he took one.
The boys were warned and sent home.
