Landlady in hot water for disconnection |

A Portmore landlady who allegedly disconnected her tenant's water supply after he failed to leave her house when given notice to vacate the premises found herself in trouble after she was charged with breaches of the Rent Restriction Act. served notice Allegations are that Tricia Harris went to the house in Hellshire Glades on March 18. The court learnt that she served notice on her tenant to remove from the premises by March 31. The following day, she allegedly went to the house in the wee hours of the morning and disconnected the water. The matter was later reported to the Portmore police and Harris was charged. When she appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magis-trate's Court on Tuesday, she pleaded not guilty. In an almost similar matter, Toni Spicer also found herself in court for allegedly removing a client's chair because he owed rent. It is reported that sometime in March, Spicer went to a shop at the Greater Portmore Shopping Centre and removed a barber chair and $19,000 that the client who owed rent had there. A subsequent report to the Portmore police resulted in her being charged. However, defence attorney Lancelot Clarke Jr told the court that Spicer left the exhibit in the care of the police in Portmore. She will return to court April 28. |
