Serving God and the people

Constable Troy Grant of the Spanish Town Police Station is also a man of God. He is so serious about God's work that he even takes his worship to the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court where he is assigned.

On Mondays, the diminutive Grant uses his powerful voice to talk about God's mercies through songs and praise at the courthouse.

''With God, all things are possible and the service is to give hope to those who turn out and sometimes feel it is the end. As a result, they look forward to each Monday's worship,'' said Grant.

Grant, who was born in St Ann, said his faith allows him to relate differently to situations. He adds that being a believer has allowed him to continue to touch the lives of many.

Having enlisted in the Jamaica Constabulary Force more than five years ago, the devout Christian, who is a member of the Power of Faith Ministries in Portmore, said with the high level of crime, serving God is important now more than ever.

THE STAR observed a number of persons at the worship sessions and they agreed that Grant was a blessing.

"He is a very special policeman. He gives another side to the police force. Persons like myself didn't know that you have police who prayed,'' said Marvia Sellers.

Another person who appeared on charges of larceny said the prayers had helped in the preservation of peace in his live and decided not to steal again. While other police depend on their guns for protection, Grant said he had a double portion of protection because he had divine intervention in his life. He promised to keep serving the Lord while protecting and serving the nation.
