CHAMPIONS Portmore United last night outplayed Waterhouse for a 1-0 win at Drewsland, extending their lead atop the Digicel Premier League standings to four points ahead of Harbour View, who drew 1-1 with Tivoli Gardens in a match which turned sour after the final whistle. Police had to fire shots into the air at Harbour View to ward off spectators and players, who became involved in a brawl sparked by a shoving match between Harbour View's Rafeik Thomas and Tivoli's Christopher Jackson. Oraine Simpson had earlier given Tivoli the lead in the 21st minute before Lovel Palmer equalised from the penalty spot in the 47th. Thomas, who once represented Tivoli, and Jackson, who also played at Harbour View, were shown red cards by the referee after the incident, the second time in a year that gunshots have rang out at the venue. Harbour View was awarded last year's Jackie Bell title after a Waterhouse goal was disallowed and gunshots forced a premature end to the final. Last night's incident put a damper on other happenings around the league, including Mario Swaby's 34th-minute goal, which pushed Portmore clear of Harbour View. The Portmore midfielder fired in a ball punched to his feet by Waterhouse goalie Richard McCallum, parrying a left-sided free kick whipped into his six-yard box. Swaby's goal gave Portmore breathing space atop the standings, four clear of Harbour View with three games left in the third round. Although stumbling 1-1 at home, Harbour View remain eight clear of third-place Boys' Town, who gave up a stoppage-time goal at Sporting Central to Levaughn Williams after Renae Lloyd fired them ahead in the 74th minute. Sporting remained ninth on 31 points, five clear of Meadhaven, who were clobbered 3-0 by Arnett Gardens as Kevin Wilson netted a double in the 63rd and 89th minutes. The Junglists jumped into sixth place with 40 points, their highest ranking this season, displacing St Georges, 39, after the Portlanders' 1-0 loss at the Spanish Town Prison Oval to eighth-place Rivoli on 34 points. Reno and Village, seemingly enjoying each other's company at the foot of the table, played to a 0-0 draw at Frome.
