Fish-fry scams |
|||||
An article in the last edition of THE WEEKEND STAR, though a serious issue, was quite funny. According to the article, persons around the island have been running fish-fry scams. Based on the details of the story, the scam is simply done by selling tickets for the event which will not be kept. Economic conditions What makes this situation a serious one is that this is being done in the midst of harsh economic conditions in which persons have to be trying hard to hold on as long as possible to every dollar they have. To lose one's hard-earned money at the snap of a finger is really sad. However, one must admit that there is some humour in the way these culprits carry out the scam. Empty location The article states that the 'scammers' just never show up with the food, or their victims turn up to an empty location, at which the event was supposed to be held. It is no secret that criminals will continue to come up with creative means of doing what they do, and this is just another method. So people here, there, and everywhere need to keep both eyes open and protect themselves and their money. Failure to do so might very well result in you becoming a victim to these criminals and their 'creative stealing' methods. |
