Pamputae - File In this weekly Mus' Buss Caan Buss song review feature, three musical minds will analyse each song and grade it on vocal ability, lyrics, musical arrangement and appeal. Songs that make the grade will be dubbed 'Mus Buss', while those that flop will be dumped in the 'Caan Buss' bin. This week the muss buss/caan buss team will be reviewing Pamputae's Sweet Pepper. Witch: Weh yuh sey Queen, wi short today but mek wi trod through di song. Pamputae a talk 'bout her Sweet Pepper, a wonder if the BC will complain? Queen: The beat reminds me of dis retro-techno song. It sounds very Pamputae-ish, the lyrics are like something she would normally do. Witch: Mi nuh know, di song nah pop fi mi. It alrite, but it just deh deh. I guess because her personality is so larger dan life mi waan hear dat in har music, hear it pop. This one just alrite afta a few listen it's not a Good Good. Queen: I agree that it may not be a Good Good, but it have potential. Unlike you, though, I really getting a vibe from di song. I like di riddim and mi nuh see why di Commission a go have a problem wid it. Other more suggestive songs are out dere. Witch: Yeah, di riddim OK. It nuh impressive though. The 'Scotch bonnet' hot part in the background reminds me of a Ward 21 kinda vibe, yuh kinda hear something like dat in the background of Bubble Like Soup and other songs. Queen: A mean, it's not a bruk out and whine kinda song, cause I can't see how people a go whine to dis. But is still a nice likkle tune, I especially like the hook, even if I neva knew who did the song and I heard it on the radio, it would just remind me of Pamputae cause is just so much like her which is a good ting. She have a signature. Witch: Yeah her, on it (the rhythm) is cool, she clever as usual. Queen: Maybe a she carry off di song fi real, cause the riddim nuh all dat impressive but her on it mek it a gwaan wid something. Witch: I woulda like to hear her show some versatility now though. Yeah, mi know dis is her ting and is her signature, but in this day and age, to mek it as a new artiste yuh need to come wid a difference and not one style. So I guess her on a techno-type beat is good, but her lyrics coulda use a subject change. Queen: Yeah, it's good to be diverse in what yuh do, but at di same time yuh need to know your strength and work it. Sometimes yuh run risk and step outside the box and it end up turn a good ting into something bad. Buss or not? Witch: It's not a bad song that will get airplay but mi nuh see no big buss. Pamputae have a vibe and mi waan see and hear her pop. Queen: Mi agree mi nuh tink it a go buss further than radio still, it need some more oomph to mek it in the dancehall and even overseas.
