Carrie Russell describes winning the 100 metre gold medal at the Carifta Games in St Lucia last Saturday as one of her most memorable moments.

Russell, who said that at the meet she ran her personal best, also considers running away with the bronze medal at the World Junior Games in Beijing, China, as another major achievement.

The sixth-former told The Star that her performance at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletic Champion-ships had also been also good.

Easy going

The 18-year-old describes herself as an easy-going, outspoken person who is more for the books than athletics. She said that she enjoyed school, movies and sometimes, parties.

Russell told THE STAR that her favourite subjects were communi-cation studies and sociology and that it was really tough managing athletics and school. She mentioned, however, that once you worked with the teacher, things would run smoothly.

"It is tough, it is real tough. you need to understand the teachers and work along with them. You need to have a level of dedication and respect for the teacher and it will work out," said Russell.

Difficulties

For Russell, it is great being an athlete although it has its difficulties. Russell was quick to add that her coach, Lloyd Clarke, was great and she considered him one of the best.

Indicating that she was a lover of teen movies, she said that Slumdog Millionaire was her absolute favourite.

In the future, Russell hopes to become a veterinarian or a psychologist.

In her spare time, she enjoys surfing the internet, reading and getting the latest highlights about a track meet.
