Cop accused of bribe granted bail

A member of the Island Special Constabulary Force who was alleged to have been held in a sting operation in Black River while taking a bribe, was granted bail when he appeared in court yesterday.

Willard Williamson, 44, who is attached to the Whitehouse Police Station, was offered bail in the sum of $250,000 when he appeared in the Black River Resident Magistrate's Court.

Signalled to stop

Allegations against the police officer are that on March 18, the complainant was driving a Toyota motor car in the White-house area when she was signalled to stop. Upon investigation, it was revealed that she did not have a driver's licence. Her boyfriend, who owns the car, was also charged.

Sting operation

It is further alleged that she was asked by the officer to give him $15,000 to drop the charges.

The matter was reported to Kingfish and a sting operation was set up along Crane Road in Black River, where the officer was held.
