Omari - file

Real Name:AndrewOmari Edwards

Birth Month:February

STAR: How did you get started in the business?

Omari: Music was always inme.I started singing in high school and sang with a groupcalled 'Rappaz for Christ' and even on the choir at church.A few years ago, I really had a burning desire to pursue music as my career.I felt in my heart that there was something I had to say that would make a difference. After some time in prayer, I went to Danny Browne and recorded my first single, Help. I guess you can say the rest is history.

STAR: What has been your greatest challenge in the business yet?

Omari: As a gospel artiste, the biggest challenge is pay. People believe that because we sing the gospel we should do everything for free. They don't realise that we have to put in a lot of work into creating our music and it costs us, as well as we also have families to provide for.

STAR: What have you been up to lately?

Omari: I've been getting my album together. Working hard. Enjoying life.

STAR: Do you look up to any specific artiste and why?

Omari: PapaSan, because he left secularmusic and entered the unknown world of gospel music and is a tremendous success, and Tarus Riley for his hard workand humility. For a man with the success he has, him humble.

STAR: Are you happy with the way things are going for your musical career right now?

Omari: Well, yes.I like to pace myself.I don'tmeasure myself by anyoneelse. I have my own aspirations. Even if sometimes things seem to be going slowly, I believeI'm at the place that I need to be right now. I'm working hard and forging the right relationships. People are hearing the work and it is speaking for itself and the feedback is positive.

STAR: Do you have any advice for young artistes coming up?

Omari: SeekGod first. Stay away from the hype and stay grounded. Promotion comes from God alone.

STAR: Where do you see yourself in the future?

Omari: Travelling the world with the message of love and peace and telling people what Christ can do for them. I see myself touching many people who others thought would never listen to gospel music. I hope to change people's view of God and what it means to serve Him and to serve humanity - by winning them with love.
