Despite having 12 trial dates set, Special Constable Uriel Harvey, who was charged with Breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act in 2007, has still not been tried. Special Constable Harvey of the Portmore Police Station in St Catherine has made more than 20 appearances in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court since his first appearance in 2007. And, although the matter had been set for trial on previous occasions, it is yet to be disposed of. When the case was mentioned before RM Caylis Wiltshire on Wednesday, the defence attorney told the court that the time was now appropriate to dismiss the case against Harvey. The attorney told the court that on 12 previous occasions the Crown told Harvey that the case would be tried and it was frustrating for her client. more time She added that two of the complainants were not interested in the matter and no one ever appeared in court. However, Clerk of Court Floyd McNab asked for more time. He told the RM that despite the subpoenas being sent out to the complainants they were not found. After hearing this explanation, Special Constable Harvey's bail was extended until May 15. Special Constable Harvey's appearance in court arose from an incident in 2007, when it is alleged that he collected money from a motorist while he was stationed at the Spanish Town Police Station. He was subsequently charged following a ruling by the director of public prosecutions. |
