|
Kevin Taylor, a man accused of pretending to be an employee of Courts Jamaica Limited and collecting money from persons wanting furniture, was remanded in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. He is charged with possession of a forged document and obtaining money by false pretence. The court was told that Taylor, who went around dressed in a Courts Jamaica shirt, collected $160,000 from various people to purchase furniture on their behalf. Taylor, however, denied the allegations, telling the court that they were " false accusations". The court was told that Taylor was held during a sting operation that had been set up by the police after receiving reports. It is alleged that when he was searched, a forged Courts Jamaica identification card was found in his underwear. He begged Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey to grant him bail, telling the court, "Oh God, Your Honour, please, gimmi a chance, nuh. Mi nuh have a complainant or nobody, an mi come a court three, four time now. Oh, God man." The police, however, told the court that additional charges were pending against Taylor and they were opposed to bail. Taylor returns to court on April 27. |
