Manchester High coach Jerry Holness believes the $1-million contribution by telecommunications giant LIME to assist 20 teams in their preparation for the Penn Relays in Pennsylvania will go a long way. At yesterday's presentation, which took place at the LIME corporate office, cheques for $50,000 were presented to each team. Holness publicly thanked the company for the gesture. "Thank you LIME for the kindness over the years," said Holness, after being invited to speak on behalf of the teams. "This contribution will go a far way," Holness said. LIME's sponsorship sees a 100 per cent increase over last year's total of $500,000. The company will also provide $100,000 'Jus Talk' calling cards to all the teams. LIME's Regional vice-president of corporate communications, Errol K. Miller, said his company felt a great deal of pride in assisting the teams, which have done very well for Jamaica over the years. "It gave us a tremendous amount of pride to do it," Miller said. Cable and Wireless are in its 17th year of sponsoring the event. The vice-president also made it clear that after the success of Jamaica at last year's Olympics, there was no doubt that they would continue to support the programme. "We want Jamaica to continue this tradition and that is why we continue to support you," he told the teams. He, however, asked the athletes to continue to conduct themselves in a manor, which will make Jamaica proud. Penn relay teams Ardenne High, Bridgeport, Calabar, Camperdown, Convent of Mercy Academy (Alpha), Edwin Allen, Holmwood, Jamaica College, Kingston College, Manchester, Munroe, St Andrew High, St Elizabeth Technical High School, St George's College, St Jago, The Queen's School, University of Technology, Vere Technical, Wolmer's Boys and Wolmer's Girls are the schools which have benefited from LIME's contribution.
