Man with two cases against him retains bail

A man with two separate cases of simple larceny pending against him, and a previous matter for a similar offence, was lucky to retains bail when his matter was mentioned in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

The accused, Deron Jackson, has two cases of simple larceny before the court. Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey, after learning of this, and Jackson's past offence, contemplated revoking his bail but, after much pleading from Jackson, it was left as is.

money missing

The court was told that Jackson went to the complainant's house and asked to use the bathroom. He knew the complainant before and was allowed to do so. It is alleged that while in the complainant's house, Jackson stole $45,000 in cash that was in the complainant's pants pocket. The complainant later realised the money was missing and called the police.

In another matter, it is alleged that Jackson stole a bag and a cellular phone from another complainant. After some inquiry from RM Pusey, he admitted he also has another matter before the court, which involves a stolen car. He, however, told the court that he did not steal the car but "the people call my name and I seh I give dem di car".

Jackson denied all the allegations, telling the court that he works as an assistant chef, a tradesman and is also a basketball player. RM Pusey told the accused that if indeed he is a thief, it would be better for society if he stayed behind bars. He, however, told her he would not disappoint her.

The matter is to be tried in the Night Court on May 5.
