Fake client robs secretary at lawyer's office

A man who gained entry to a lawyer's office by pretending to be a client, tied up a secretary and then made off with money and a cellular phone, is to be tried in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on May 12.

Kemar Nesbeth pleaded not guilty to robbery with aggravation before Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey on Thursday.

pretended

The court was told that on January 28, Nesbeth pretended to be interested in seeing a lawyer and entered the office. It is alleged that he tied the secretary's hands and feet and stuffed her mouth, before stealing her BlackBerry and taking $11,300 from the office.

out on bail

It is also alleged that Nesbeth committed the offence while out on bail on a murder charge. However, he told the court that he was not guilty and said at the time he allegedly committed the offence he was reporting to the Central Police Station. He said after doing so, he stayed on the grounds for some time, doing some repair work to a motor bike. However, the police say he was pointed out in an identification parade.
