Portmore athlete grabs gold at CARIFTA Games

Jazeel Murphy, arguablY one of Portmore's best ever athlete, won three gold medals, two in record times, at the 38th CARIFTA Games, in Vieux Fort National Stadium in St Kitts over the weekend.

Murphy, who just turned 15 in February, shattered the U-17 200m record, winning gold in 20.97 seconds, breaking Dexter Lee's mark of 21.09 seconds done in 2007. Trinidad and Tobago's Jonathan Holder took silver, in 21.36, while Delano Williams of Turks and Caicos won bronze in 21.62.

4x100m

Murphy was also a part of Jamaica's 4x100m team which include Adam Cummings, Odean Skeen, and Travis Drummond, broke Trinidad and Tobago's nine-year-old record of 40.87 seconds, clocking a blistering a 40.76 seconds, to turn back the challenges of second-place Bahamas (41.89) and third-place Barbados (42.18).

Murphy earlier decimated the field to win the 100m in a personal best 10.41 seconds, just 0.07 seconds, outside Lee's record of 10.34 seconds.

Jonathan Farquharson of Bahamas took second in 10.59 while Holder, the 200m silver medalist, placed third in 10.62 seconds. Jamaica, for the umpteenth time, finished atop the medal standings with 67 medals, 39 gold, 15 silver, 13 bronze.

Trinidad and Tobago were next with 29 medals, nine gold, 10 silver, and 10 bronze while Barbados placed third, amassing four gold, nine silver and eight bronze medals.
