Murdering 'spring'

Once again, criminals and their senseless acts have made our headlines, leaving us to ask the question, why?

Last week there were reports of violence in the Caymanas Bay community of St Catherine, which is said to have stemmed from a controversy involving a so-called mineral spa in the community.

According to reports, a 14-year-old girl was murdered last Sunday, then, on Wednesday, three female victims, two of whom were nine and 13 years old, were shot and injured in what the police say is linked to the ongoing feud.

Now, in what way could three minors have been involved in such a feud? Why were they attacked?

Though the police say the dispute is a long-standing one in which several persons have lost their lives, only one man was killed in the recent flare-up.

Reports of this nature are truly disheartening and paint a dirty picture of our country.

It is alleged that the dispute is over the control of funds obtained from admission fees to the premises. But, when one thinks of it, the bath is not a major attraction, thus, no any exorbitant amount of money is collected.

Therefore, this boils down to one thing - stupidity!

This situation warrants not only police but Government intervention; the Government should step in and take control of the natural resource, since we, the, citizens, have no idea how to enjoy what is ours.
