GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer
Anika Kirby proudly turned up at the Sharon Baptist Church, recently, to have her son, Samuel Hutchinson, christened by Rev-erend Jacob Powell. She told THE STAR that she felt good knowing that her son was blessed and has the full protection of God. She also noted that she had to have him christened because it is an important affair which should be done by all parents. "It is important that all parents take their babies to the church to be dedicated. This should be done as a start to raise them in the fear and admonition of God. I was brought up that way, and so I believe it is very important that my son be brought up in that way too," said the proud mother. Now that the presence of the Lord is on Samuel, Kirby promised to take him to church on a regular basis so that he will start learning the way of God. Samuel, who was born at the Mandeville Hospital, is also the son of Radcliffe Hutchinson of Santa Cruz in St Elizabeth. Reverend Jacob Powell encouraged Kirby to take good care of him. He said she and the child's father must ensure that when he gets older, and starts attending school, he is not seen on the streets or at odd places when he should be at home under their supervision. Adult responsibilities He added that too many children have taken on adult responsibilities and behaviours, when they are not in their parents' presence. Children, he said, should follow their parents' instructions and be brought up in the right and proper way, as God commands. Powell begged Kirby to
also allow the church to play a major role in Samuel's upbringing, so he can get the proper instructions. According to the pastor, the Church would help him to become a worthwhile individual who will be able to make important contributions to the society. |
