HIJACKED! |
|||||
Lot of questions, but no answers The hijacking incident which ran from Sunday night into yesterday morning at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James, has certainly raised a ton load of questions. Chief among them - How did it happen? According to reports, a gunman breached several security checkpoints and boarded an aircraft before continuing to hold passengers and crew members hostage. In all honesty, the situation happened way too easily. If security measures at a major airport can be by-passed that easily, then those in charge have some serious thinking and acting to do. Thanks be to God that no one was injured, but one question does keep on resounding - What if? It seems it was just a matter of luck which kept us from hearing that the hijacker wreaked havoc on the aircraft, killing several persons. After all, he had a gun, and he did fire a shot. One would think airport officials worldwide would learn from the sad events of what many now simply call 9/11. It can be argued that no system is perfect but if all it takes to break through what should have been a 'dependable' plan was a fake identification card, then it makes for major concern. Now, the Government needs to embark on damage control while looking to devise much more reliable security measures at our airports. No one was hurt this time but should there be a next time, things may prove way more deadly if we choose to not act now. |
