After copping the gold medal for the sprint double in 2005 for the 100 and 200-metre races at the GraceKennedy/ISSA Boys and Girls' Athletic Championships, Petra Fanty captured another gold medal this year in the 400-metre event.

The fifth-former who idolises Veronica Campbell, told THE STAR that she enjoyed Champs this year because she won three gold medals. Fanty won the 400, 4x100 and the 4x400 metre races.

memorable moment

She described her victory in the 400-metre race as her most memorable moment especially since she was not a favourite.

"My most memorable moment was when I won the 400 metres at Champs ... . They did not expect me to win the 400 metres. They predicted that I would come in fifth," said Fanty.

The 17-year-old, who wants to become a professional athlete, said that she has a good relationship with her coaches, although she does not get along well with all of her teachers.

A huge Beenie Man fan, she admitted that her favourite song was Superhuman by Chris Brown and Keri Hilson.

She described herself as a friendly person who loves to give jokes, have fun and talk with friends.

Fanty is currently doing six subjects at the CXC level and told THE STAR that although it is hard, she has to manage. Food and nutrition, she said, is her best subject and also her favourite.

The teen, who did not make the Carifta team this year, described that as her worst moment. Adamant about being the best, Fanty said that although training was hard, she would continue to do so in order to become the best.

Fanty's favourite food is rice and peas with chicken and her favourite movie is Love and Basketball.
