Man accused of killing wife remanded
BARBARA GAYLE, Staff Reporter

A policeman accused of murdering his wife to prevent her from testifying against him in a shooting with intent case was remanded in the Home Circuit Court on Friday.

Constable Raymond Campbell, assigned to a police station in St James, is charged jointly with truck driver Greg Cameron, 26.

Campbell was arrested and charged last year with shooting with intent and illegal possession of firearm. He has been accused of firing shots at other policemen at a police station in St James.

abducted

He was allegedly held in bushes the next day and he allegedly reported that he was abducted. He was allegedly found in possession of his licensed firearm and another gun.

The Crown alleges that Campbell's wife went missing in August of last year. There are allegations that Campbell fatally shot his wife but the body has not been found.

Teeth were found in bushes and when tests and analysis were done the scientific report indicated that the teeth could have been that of the deceased.

Attorney-at-law Jacqueline Samuels Brown, making a bail application, said there was no strong evidence linking Cameron with the murder.

a vital witness

Defence lawyer Peter Champagnie, representing Campbell, also applied for bail, saying the wife could not have been a vital witness in the gun case against Campbell. He said one of the reasons they were picking on Campbell was because they wanted him to be involved in some corrupt practices in Montego Bay.

Supreme Court Judge Martin Gayle denied Campbell. Cameron was offered $1 million bail with sureties and ordered to report to the Mount Salem Police Station, St James, daily. He was also placed under curfew. They are return to court on May 22.
